Discovering the events and areas involved with the famous Battle of the Somme.  

 

The 1st July, remembered as the darkest day in British military history with 60,000 casualties.
However, there is so much more to this battle to discover. On the tour we will visit important areas to really give you a sense and feel for the grounds on which the soldiers fought and died on. We will start at the furthermost point of the British front line where it met with the French. From here we will follow the front line up where we pass many individual memorials. There will also be interesting stories told along the way. 

The day will include :-

Mametz Wood and memorial
Lochnagar Crater
Thiepval Memorial to the missing
The Ulster Tower
Newfoundland Park at Beaumont Hamel.
